ReadOut

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026

ReadOut is a Chrome extension for practicing English by reading out loud. This policy explains what we collect and why — plainly. Questions: hello@joinreadout.app.

Your account

You sign in with Google. We store your email address, name, and Google account ID to identify your account. We never see your Google password.

Your learning data

To make the product work, we store, synced to your account:

ReadOut does not track your general browsing. Pages are recorded only when you act on them — saving a word or reading aloud during a session you started.

Microphone & recordings

The microphone is active only during reading sessions you start, and does two things: it measures voice activity to count your speaking minutes, and it records your session so you can listen back to yourself — hearing yourself is part of how ReadOut helps. Recordings are stored in private storage accessible only to your account. They are never shared, never used for advertising, and never used to train AI models. Deleting your account deletes them.

Word lookups

When you save a word, the word itself (nothing else) is sent to dictionary services (Datamuse, Free Dictionary API) for definitions and to a translation service for the Traditional Chinese meaning.

Payments

Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe — we never see or store them. We store your subscription status (plan, trial and renewal dates) to know what to unlock.

Emails

We send transactional email only — for example, a reminder before your free trial ends. No marketing lists, no newsletters you didn't ask for.

Diagnostics

If something breaks, the extension logs a short technical error report (what failed, an error code, the extension version). These contain no page content and no audio.

Where data lives, and who else touches it

Data is hosted on Supabase infrastructure. We use Stripe (payments), Resend (email), and the dictionary services above. We do not sell your data, show ads, or share your data with anyone else.

Deleting your data

In ReadOut: Settings → Delete account permanently deletes your account and all server data — words, reading history, recordings, and profile — and clears local data on the device. Or email us and we'll do it.

Children

ReadOut is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we'll note it here with a new date above.
